D Quest — Learn the Animal Kingdom with Biology Trivia Games

D Quest is a free biology trivia game for students. Play short daily puzzles to learn the animal kingdom, memorize taxonomic ranks (kingdom, phylum, class, order, family, genus, species), and master the tree of life. Three daily modes and three classic modes let you practice identifying common ancestors, guessing mystery species, and spotting the odd one out in a taxonomic group.

Game modes

  • Classic: Common Ancestor — Two species appear; pick their most recent common ancestor from four options. Mixed difficulty, three lives.
  • Classic: Mystery Animal — Guess a hidden species. Each guess reveals shared taxonomic ranks and the common ancestor between your guess and the answer.
  • Classic: Odd One Out — Four species, one doesn't fit. Spot the outlier and name the shared taxonomic rank for bonus points.
  • Daily: Common Ancestor — One puzzle a day, four tries, ancestor-name autocomplete.
  • Daily: Mystery Animal — A single mystery species per day, up to twenty guesses, shareable results.
  • Daily: Odd One Out — One odd-one-out puzzle per day with a bonus question about the shared rank.

What you learn

  • The order of taxonomic ranks: domain, kingdom, phylum, class, order, family, genus, species.
  • How to find the most recent common ancestor (MRCA) between any two animals.
  • Approximate evolutionary dates in millions of years ago (MYA).
  • Which clades groups like mammals, reptiles, birds, and insects belong to.
  • How to identify species by their shared taxonomic features.

Why students use D Quest

D Quest replaces rote memorization with spaced practice. Each round shows actual phylogenetic relationships with Wikipedia-sourced facts and images, so the classification hierarchy becomes visual and memorable. It's a study tool for high school and intro college biology, a warm-up for exams, and a casual way to build intuition about evolution and biodiversity.
